Plaisance was set up as parish on 5th February 1949, with Father Eustache as the first parish priest. A chapel, built in 1919 for the residents of Fiennes Institute, was leased to the Catholic Mission by the Governor, Sir Selwyn Selwyn Clark. She was replaced by a church built by Brother Michel and a team of Seychellois workers, and was consecrated on 27th September 1956 by Bishop Maradan. The priest’s house dates from June 1957. In September 2000, the parish was entrusted to the community of Spiritan priests.
