James CHANG-TAVE (Diocesan priest)

James Chang Tave

  • Born on 28th November 1918 at Plaisance.
  • Ordained priest: 1st January 1950 in Rome.

After attending secondary school at the Marist Brothers, he went to study at the Propagation of the Faith. He was the first Seychellois priest and was a great promoter of vocations to the priesthood. He was parish priest at Anse Boileau for 19 years.
He died on 3rd October 1981 after a long and painful illness.

Symphorien (Paul MOREL) Ofm Cap.

Paul Morel

  • Born on 19th March 1922 on Silhouette.
  • Solemn profession: 8th September 1950.
  • Ordained priest in Seychelles: 9th September 1951.
  • Died on 5th March 1996.

After attending secondary school at the Marist Brothers, he studied philosophy at the Senior Seminary of Bombay. On 7th September 1946, he did his novitiate and followed studies in theology in the Capuchin community in Switzerland. He takes the name Symphorien.

He was parish priest at Plaisance, at the Cathedral and Glacis. He was director of the Petit Séminaire, Superior of the community, Vicar General and editor of ‘l’Echo des Iles’.

Exupère (Ralph ADAM) Ofm Cap.*

  • Born on 9th July 1937.
  • Ordained priest: 19th December 1961.

Gustave, Charles-Borromée, LAFORTUNE (diocesan)

  • Born on 3rd November 1936 at Cascade.
  • Ordained priest: 30th June in Fribourg, Switzerland.

He began his ministry and started as curate at Mont Fleuri, then at Plaisance.

He is a singer-songwriter, priest-builder at Baie-Sainte-Anne (1966-1973), Anse Royale, Anse Boileau/La Salette, Grand’Anse, Mahé, Port-Glaud, Mont Fleuri, Cascade.

  • Born on 27th October 1938 at Anse Royale.
  • Ordained priest: 28th June 1964.

Gabriel, Frank HOARAU (diocesan)*

  • Born on 15th March 1940.
  • Ordained priest: 28th June 1964.

Edwin, Charly MATHIOT (diocesan)

  • Born on 31st March 1938.
  • Ordained priest: 3rd July 1966.

After secondary school and a time at the Petit Séminaire, he continued his studies to the priesthood at the ‘Collège de Saint-Maurice’, then at the ‘Grand Séminaire de Fribourg’, Switzerland.

Back in the Diocese, he was parish priest at Baie Sainte Anne, Port Glaud, Bel Ombre, Victoria – where he started off as curate – and Mont Fleuri since May 2014.

He is the Vicar General since 1990, Chancellor and editor of ‘l’Echo des Iles’.

In February 2006, he was elevated to the rank of Honorary Prelate of His Holiness by Pope Benedict XVI.

Lonnie, Marcellin ADRIENNE (diocesan)

  • Born on 5th July 1961.
  • Ordained priest: 5th February 1989.

After secondary school, he was sent to the Propagation of the Faith, Rome, to prepare for the priesthood.

He was parish priest at the Cathedral, La Digue, Cascade. As parish priest of Anse aux Pins/Pointe Larue he built the two new parish churches.

John, Bernard, Martin GAPPY (diocesan)*

  • Born on 29th July 1967.
  • Ordained priest: 5th February 1989.

David, James, Gabriel ALCINDOR (diocesan)

  • Born on 22nd March 1960.
  • Ordained priest: 2nd August 1992.

Teacher, social worker, seminarian at La Réunion and Bayonne, France.

He was curate in Victoria, parish priest at Mont Fleuri, Anse Royale/Pointe au Sel and since May 2014, he is parish priest at the Cathedral.

Jean-Michel MOREL (diocesan)*

  • Born on 20th September 1964 at Silhouette.
  • Ordained priest: 25th August 1991.

Eric, Antonio LEON (diocesan)

  • Born on 16th July 1968 at Grand’Anse, Mahé.
  • Ordained priest: 27th August 1995.

A Polytechnic graduate in fine arts, Eric followed his theological studies at the Seminary of Bayonne, France.

Parish priest at Cascade, he prepared the youth for World Youth Day in Rome (1999) and Toronto (2002).

Since September 2003, he is parish priest at Grand’Anse, Mahé and Port-Glaud.

Roger, Joseph DE COMARMOND (diocesan)

  • Born on 18th May 1941 at la Digue.
  • Ordained priest: 29th August 1999.

After his studies at the Seychelles College, Roger is a teaching brother at the Brothers of Christian Instruction. He took his vows on 21st August 1966.

He was a teacher at the Seychelles College, and was entrusted with managerial positions.

Called to the priesthood, he followed studies in philosophy and pastoral work in the United States, in Bayonne and in Toulouse.

Back in the Diocese, Father Roger was parish priest at Anse Boileau, Anse aux Pins, Mont Fleuri, and Chaplain of Apostleship of the Sea.

He is parish priest at Anse Royale since May 2014.

Marcel COOPOOSAMY (diocesan)*

  • Born on 15th March 1940.
  • Ordained priest: 11th August 1968.

Georges TIRANT (diocesan)*

  • Born on 23rd April 1977.
  • Ordained priest: 24th July 2002.

Collin UNDERWOOD (diocesan)

  • Born on 15th February 1980.
  • Ordained priest: 23rd August 2009.

After his secondary education, he did his seminary studies in Mauritius and in Nantes.

He was curate at Anse Royale. He is the parish priest at Bel Ombre since 2012.

Norlis ROSE-HOAREAU (Deacon preparing for the priesthood)*
