Until 1888, the Catholics of Baie-Lazare were dependent on Anse Boileau;
during the week Father Callixte came to celebrate mass and teach catechism at Val Mer.
Baie Lazare became a parish in 1888.
Father Venance built a first wooden chapel, on the site of the present church, in 1895.
From 1920 to 1935, the parish had 5 parish priests: Fathers Ernest Joye, Vital (Belgian), Jean Chrysostome, Martial and Simon.
With the nomination of Father Olivier as Bishop in 1937, and the arrival of new Swiss missionaries, the parish enjoyed renewed vigour, with the arrival of Fathers Valère Dousse (1935-1947) and Lambert Noël who undertook the construction of the church which Bishop Maradan consecrated on 17th September 1953. Brother Pierre-Marie was the architect who designed the church and painted the frescoes decorating the walls of the sanctuary.
Renovation in September 2006.
The Mission built a school at ‘Dans Gravier’, Anse Gaulette. In 1896, the school was placed in the hands of the Sisters of Cluny, who managed it until 1944.
