• Born on 5th April 1927 in Nantes. • Ordained priest : 1960 • On 25th March 1995, John-Paul lI appointed him Bishop of the Diocese of Port-Victoria. • Having requested a coadjutor, Father Denis Wiehe was appointed. The transfer of power was on 1st June 2002. • Bishop Baronnet left the Diocese on 29th July 2002. • He died during the night of 6th to 7th September 2012 in Paris.
After his military service, he entered the Jesuit order. 1962: From the Sorbonne, he goes to Africa until 1969. He then spends 10 years in the South Pacific. From 1980, he works in the Indian Ocean, based in La Réunion Island, for the setting up of the CEDOI, of which he becomes the first secretary. He set up several new groups and services. In 1998, he presided over the merging of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Elisabeth with the Sisters of ‘Filles de Marie de La Réunion’. Among other achievements: formation of a new commission for religious instruction, participation in the translation of the New Testament in Kreol Seselwa, the arrival of the Spiritans. In a ‘Memorandum of Understanding’, he signed an agreement with the State concerning the occupation of land where Catholic schools are. In 2006, on the invitation of Bishop Wiehe, he returned to Seychelles to preside over the festivities organised for the tour of the relics of Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus around the parishes.
