Missionaries of Charity
They arrived in the Diocese on 15th July 1983 and settled in the parish of Anse Etoile, where they work with the sick, children, families.
Their founder, Mother Teresa, visited them in 1984.
The ‘Filles de Marie de La Réunion’
The first community, made up of 4 nuns, settled in Takamaka on 5th May 1991, and at Hermitage.
Later, they settled at Saint Elisabeth’s Convent, and after the merger, they opened a community on Praslin, La Digue, Solitude and Anse Etoile.
The nuns work in religious instruction, in the parishes, in different social services, in schools, crèches, with old people and the youth.
Sisters of Loretto
The Sisters of Loretto (Institute of the Blessed Virgin Mary) were in the Diocese since October 2004, living at Glacis, at the Convent of
the Sisters of Cluny that had just closed its doors.
They were active in training of young people, catechists and adults, in spiritual care of the sick (‘Accompagnement Spirituel des Malades’) and in the launching of the ‘Education à la Vie et à l’Amour’ (EVA) program.
Due to a lack of personnel in their Province, the community had to leave the Diocese in December 2012.
Sisters of the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary
At the service of the Diocese since 2008, the Sisters of this congregation have settled at Bel Ombre. They are catechists; they take care of
youth movements and assist the parish priest.
