Takamaka Saint Mary of Magdala

Takamaka was set up as a parish in 1888, Father Bienvenu being the first parish priest. Up to 1951, the parish was at Takamaka where Father
Venance built a wooden chapel; Father Claude (1936-1940) built a parish hall.

On 13th July 1955, Bishop Maradan consecrated the new church built on a site given by the Désaubin and Jumeau families. The plans and the mural remembering the life of Mary of Magdala are the works of Brother Pierre-Marie.

Father Simon converted the old Sisters of Cluny Convent to a priest’s house. The Sisters had managed the Mission school from 1905 to 1946, when they had to leave.

Father Joseph Prince opened a crèche.
Renovations in 1994 and 2014; blessed by Bishop Denis Wiehe on 13th July 2014.

The parish is served by the parish priest of Baie Lazare who is assisted by the Sisters of ‘Filles de Marie de La Réunion’, installed in the parish since 1991.
